Texas Longshore Sediment Transport

The project characterizes the nearshore wave and current conditions in representative summer and winter seasons in Texas Gulf Coast Region 1 by gathering field-measured hydrodynamic data (multiple 2-week under-water fixed instrument deployments and several vessel-mounted measurements). The analysis of the data collected will help investigate the seasonal variability in the cross-shore distribution of both longshore currents and longshore sediment transport in the littoral zone and connect to previous and ongoing numerical modeling efforts done by HR Wallingford, our partner in this project.

This project is intended as a pilot study and data collection effort that can be expanded to other Texas Gulf Coast Regions in future years and thus provides a collaborative investment in monitoring and better understanding our nearshore system with a large benefit to cost ratio.
