Texas Coast Waves

Proposed project outcomes include: (i) a comprehensive wave modeling framework for the Texas coastal region, including enhanced wave models based on SWAN, featuring improved resolution and representation of coastal features. (ii) A dataset consisting of an integration of hurricane wind data (based on NOAA’s HURDAT set of storm parameters) with NOAA’s reanalyses data, enhanced wave predictions during storms and integration of the hurricane model with wave prediction models. (iii) Short-term wave measurements data, and validation of the model’s performance through comparisons with these data. (iv) Development of a comprehensive framework for future hurricane and wave modeling, complete with explicit recommendations for various stakeholders. (v) Utilization of sensitivity metrics to pinpoint areas of high sensitivity in the Texas coastal region and to identify locations with the greatest wave variability. This information will guide the deployment of buoys for future data collection efforts. (vi) A set of extreme value data (e.g., 50-year, 100-year, etc.) close to the coast.
